Meta Ads - Image formats
1080 x 1920
1080 x 1080
1080 x 566

Google Display Ads - Image formats
1080 x1080
1200 x 628
960 x 1200

Meta Ads - Video formats:
1080 x 1920
1080 x 1080
(1080 x 566; negligible)

Google Display Ads & Youtube Ads - Video formats:
1920 x 1080
1080 x 1920
1080 x 1080

Tip 1: Start with short video ads.

Video ad length: up to 45 seconds
Plenty of placements take longer ads, but for simplicity start with short video ads.

Tip 2: You do not need every image format.

With this list you need 5 image formats total and 4 for video.
Yes, more formats exist, but Google dynamic ad formats let you skip a ton of them.

Tip 3: You do not need every video format. Start vertical!

Cut production effort on video ads

If you want to cut production effort, shoot with a focus on vertical video ads (1080x1920 pixels).

Take it one step further: shoot focused on vertical video ads (1080 x 1920 pixels), but keep the center of the frame tight (1080 x 1080 pixels).

If you reverse-engineer production, you cover every format: square to story to landscape. With 4K video you can plan and shoot it all in one take. Multiformat production always adds work: for first tests I recommend pure vertical videos in the name of speed.
